| Moosehead Lake is 1,000 feet about sea level. It is the biggest lake in Maine. It is 18 miles wide and 40 miles long. It has 500 miles of shoreline, including the islands. From 1835 to the 1930’s it was used for travel. There are mountains which rise above the lake water. Moosehead Lake covers about 120 square miles (311 square kilometers) in the west central part of the state. It wasn’t until the 1700’s that the first white people came to the Moosehead Lake region.
