Mt. Kineo

Mt. Kineo is an isolated peninsula in Moosehead Lake. The mountain is made of flint. Indians came from all over the East coast just for the flint. They used the flint to make arrowheads and stone tools.

In 1844 a big hotel was built on Kineo. It was a popular spot for rich people from the cities like Boston and New York. They wanted to get away from the diseases in the cities. The depression changed people’s lives and Kineo stopped being a busy summer destination for the rich. The hotel was torn down.
