Hope Elementary : Lake History
The first question we asked was, What is some history on Alford lake? Scott said “There used to be a boys camp and there used to be a camp ground on the lake.” The camp ground that used to be there was were he camped. Then we asked him Do you think they should keep the lake cleaner than they do? He said the lake is pretty clean and he has no worries, he said the lake is spring fed. He also said that with the camp ground gone no "out of stators" dump there waste in there. One of the best camps on the lake is Beaver Lodge. There is a good swimming at Beaver Lodge and a lot of sandy spots/beaches on the lake. There is a lot of camps like a boys camp but that is gone now. There is a girls camp. Girls from all over the world go to that camp. Then there is people who have camps all along the shore of the lake. All around the lake there is wild life. There is deer, fox, fishers, there was a moose but it died a while back, ducks, loons, muskrats, and a lot of different rodents. Sea doos are illegal in Alford Lake. You mostly see canoes, kayaks, and sail boats. You can go kayaking, canoeing, boat riding, fishing, tubing, ice skating, and water ski. There is a special group that monitors the lake for pollution. She said ”I think that what was once a quite peaceful lake, is now growing rapidly in population. I think that they should cut down on the population around the lake because Hope was always and should always be a quiet and low key town.”
